A solar system for Nigeria

A solar energy solutions provider, Solaps has expressed its commitment to reach 20 million Nigerian users in the market to address energy poverty through its new products. The new products that were launched as part of its mission to confront the energy poverty crisis in Nigeria would provide a much-needed solution to the country’s electrification challenges by expanding access to clean, affordable and reliable solar solutions.

The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Omololu Noibi, said the firm seeks to provide clean energy to 20 million people in the next few years and alleviate energy poverty. Noibi also reiterated that job creation would be a priority for Nigerians, spurring quality local green employment opportunities. According to him, with 45 per cent of Nigerians living without access to electricity, rising to 74 per cent for the rural population, there is a significant opportunity to positively impact the lives of millions through clean energy provision. “Supporting rural communities will be a key focus for Solaps to target small business owners and market traders in particular. Small and Medium Enterprises contribute 48 per cent of national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), account for 96 per cent of businesses and 84 per cent of employment in Nigeria. It is important that energy access is accelerated in Nigeria. This will positively transform people’s lives, powering inclusive and sustainable economic development.” he added.

He said the new products, which range from Solaps jacket, backpack, travel bag, phone case and tablet case are definitely a step in the right direction, saying, “We have an ambitious pipeline ahead. We are passionate about making clean energy as accessible as possible in developing the Nigerian market.” However, the off-grid clean energy market in Nigeria has significant untapped potential. As we expand our operations in the country, we are empowering thriving communities to unlock economic potential through affordable energy access and by accelerating the adoption of solar renewable worldwide. The Operating Officer of the firm, Omolade Igiebunu said, “Scaling access to capital is absolutely fundamental to the success of the off-grid energy sector in Nigeria. By deploying and unlocking greater levels of capital, there is a huge market opportunity to bring clean energy to the millions of people living without it. We’re looking forward to Solaps ramping up operations to make a greater impact on the sustainable development of SMEs.”.
