Compliance & LC/Trade Finance Specialist – Role Summary
The Compliance & LC/Trade Finance Specialist is SOLAPS’s dedicated expert on all matters relating to Letters of Credit, Form M, Nigerian Customs compliance, and CBN foreign exchange regulations for cross-border import transactions. Reporting to the Finance Manager (Nigeria), this role protects SOLAPS from customs delays, regulatory penalties, bank disputes, and supplier payment failures — ensuring every shipment from China arrives on time, fully compliant, and at the correct landed cost. This is a highly technical, detail-critical role for someone who knows Nigerian trade finance inside and out.
Key Responsibilities:
- Letter of Credit Management: Manage the full LC lifecycle for all SOLAPS import transactions — application, issuance, document review, discrepancy resolution, and settlement — in strict compliance with UCP 600.
- Form M & Pre-Import Documentation: Prepare and submit Form M applications through SOLAPS’s Nigerian commercial bank; manage amendments, track validity, and coordinate CCVO/pre-shipment inspection requirements.
- Nigerian Customs Compliance: Ensure accurate HS code classification for all SOLAPS product categories; review duty computations; challenge over-assessments; ensure SOLAPS benefits from applicable duty concessions for solar/renewable energy imports.
- CBN FX Compliance: Ensure all SOLAPS FX transactions comply with CBN guidelines; manage documentary evidence for FX utilisation; monitor CBN policy changes and brief the Finance Manager promptly.
- Supplier Documentation: Review and communicate LC terms to Chinese suppliers; ensure Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Certificate of Origin comply exactly with LC requirements before bank presentation.
- SON/NAFDAC/CAC Compliance: Manage SOLAPS’s product certification requirements (SONCAP, SON, NAFDAC where applicable); maintain CAC filings, TIN, and VAT registration.
- Compliance Calendar: Maintain a live compliance calendar covering all LC expiries, Form M renewals, regulatory filing dates, and customs obligations — with 30-day advance flagging.
KPIs:
- LC Accuracy:
- LC discrepancy rate below 5% of all presentations.
- Zero LC presentations rejected due to preventable documentation errors.
- Form M Processing:
- All Form M applications submitted a minimum of 30 days before expected shipment date.
- Zero shipments arriving in Nigeria without an approved Form M.
- Customs Compliance:
- Zero import compliance violations.
- All HS code classifications reviewed and documented before each new product import.
- Compliance Calendar:
- 100% of regulatory deadlines flagged to the Finance Manager at least 30 days in advance.
- Zero missed statutory filing deadlines (CAC, TIN, VAT, SON/NAFDAC).
- Reporting:
- Monthly compliance status report delivered to the Finance Manager by the 5th of each month.
- LC register 100% up to date in real time for all open transactions.
Expected Results/Outcomes:
- Zero Shipment Delays: SOLAPS’s China imports clear customs on time, every time — because the documentation is always accurate, complete, and compliant.
- Cost Protection: SOLAPS pays the correct import duties — no over-assessments, no penalties, and full benefit from applicable solar/renewable energy duty concessions.
- Regulatory Confidence: SOLAPS operates in full compliance with CBN, NCS, SON, NAFDAC, and CAC requirements at all times — with audit-ready documentation.
- Bank Relationships: Strong, well-managed relationships with SOLAPS’s trade finance bank desk, ensuring smooth LC processing and competitive trade finance terms.
- Compliance Infrastructure: A compliance calendar, LC register, and documentation archive that make SOLAPS’s import operations the most organised in its peer group.
Compensation:
- Base Salary: $22,000 – $36,000 per year (mid-senior specialist grade; based on depth of trade finance experience).
- Performance Bonus: Up to 15% of base salary, tied to LC accuracy, compliance calendar adherence, and zero-violation targets.
